I THINK this year's a good chance for our Electoral College to prove that there's a reason for their existence. They have an opportunity now to elect Bob Dole as president, and I think they have a reason to do that. If they don't use that power this time, it seems to me they should be disbanded, and we should elect people strictly on the one man, one vote principle and do away with the electors of the Electoral College.
IN ANSWER to the complainer about the post office: From my college degree through 30 years in the Navy, I've never encountered postal service as good as we have here in Cape Girardeau. Delivery is 100 percent. You'll never find better or in most cases equal to what we have are fortunate to have here in Cape.
I'M TIRED of these burglars. I even had to move in with my grandma so she's feel safe. What is going on here? Can't they catch them? If we have to, get a helicopter. Let's get these guys. Whatever it takes.
IT'S 6:30 a.m., and I'm getting ready to head to my $6-an-hour job. To the person who said you're stupid if you work for $6 an hour, better think again. I'm the one helping to pay for their welfare. I like the idea that I work for my money. That's the respect that I have for myself.
MANY OF us moved closer to Heaven Tuesday evening. We were transported by the glorious music so beautifully presented by SEMO's Department of Music, the university orchestra, the Choral Union and the university choir. We thank each musician for the journey.
THANK YOU, Sarah Edgerton and John Egbert, for a wonderful community concert by the Choral Union, the university chorus and the orchestra. We are grateful to have such a nice cultural addition to this community, and we just want you to know "Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing" was just one of the most beautiful things I've heard in many a year. Thanks for all your hard work and leadership.
I THINK the voters in Southeast Missouri, in Cape Girardeau County in particular, have made it very clear where their position is, and it's not the left and it's not to the middle. I would like to say thank you, Southeast Missourian, for your strong editorial stands. Just keep it up. You're representing the majority of the people in the community.
I WANT to comment about this same-sex marriage in Hawaii. Many people during the election thought it wasn't necessary to vote. A lot of Christians, some people who claim to be Christians, voted for Clinton. Now here's the problem we've got. That Ruth Gingsberg on the Supreme Court will be for sure to vote for gay rights, because Supreme Court justices like this are going to put this right on us. There's no doubt in the world that they're going to OK these gay marriages. And remember, this is just the beginning. This is the camel's nose underneath tent. The Christians who voted for Clinton are responsible for this abortion and this gay rights deal. It's just going to continue, and our children are going to pay for it.
NO MOTORIST is an island unto himself. When a stop sign is erected to slow down others, it also slows me. My suggestion to those requesting a four-way stop at Sprigg and Bertling is to come to a complete stop and look both ways before proceeding. I've found the less often I pull out in front of oncoming traffic, the less often I am struck by vehicles.
