Double standards

OH WE have the double standards. This lieutenant in the Air Force was forced to resign because they took her personal life into it and she was forced out of her career. If they would have had those moral standards, then Dwight D. Eisenhower would not have lead the troops to Normandy. And I think Gen. Patton, if I'm not mistaken, had the same situation going. In other words, this fellow that they got, if they appoint him and confirm him, then that means there's a double standard. Believe you me, I am no woman's rights advocate but what's right is right and what's wrong is wrong, and this is wrong. I think, as a matter of fact, she should have been given a reprimand or transfer but she should not have been fired. If they're confirm him, then I think this lieutenant should get her job back.

You're right, we're wrong

I WAS interested in the article on the front page of the June 5 Missourian. Twice, the author quoted something about a candle light opera and I was curious as to what that is and I thought the entire article was very poorly written. I was curious you no longer have proofreaders.

All copy written by reporters is proofed by at least one copy editor. Unfortunately, the copy editor reading this story had not recently been married or wasn't familiar with the term candelabra. We try hard to catch all the mistakes, but unfortunately a few do slip through. Sorry for the confusion.

Thanks to St. Louis Bread Company

I WANT to thank the St. Louis Bread Company for its kindness in donating bread to the Business Vittles monthly meal for the poor. This is an ongoing act of kindness and I really appreciate what this company does for our community.

Why are car phones dangerous?

I recently read a comment in Speak Out regarding the use of car phones and how they are dangerous. I understand that there was a study that did indicate that, but I don't understand why they are dangerous. Why would it require any more concentration to speak to someone on a car phone than it would to speak to the person sitting in the passenger's seat. We don't outlaw talking in the car, so why should we outlaw talking on a telephone in the car?

Unhappy at Kelso

Kelso C-7 School Board President Dorothy Dirmberger should have accepted Superintendent Rick Chastain's resignation as well as submitted her own.

No free meal

I WAS just reading in Saturday's Missourian about the dogs running loose in south Cape. I have one comment. If you're tired of feeding them, don't feed them. They're only going to come around because they know they can get a free meal.

What about Channel 49?

WOULD SOMEBODY please explain to me this Channel 49? I just picked up the paper again Saturday morning and it says it is on the air and it is not on my TV. I have Channel 23, I do have a UHF antenna and I can't get it. I was just curious if this is only for cable TV or if everybody's going to get this channel.

The channel should be visible with a UHF antenna just like KBSI, said a company spokesman. The station has been taken down several times since it debuted Saturday for various testing. If it's down, a darker snow that normal will be visible. The testing should be completed this week. The station is now on the Cape Girardeau/Jackson cable systems on Channel 20. For more information or problems, contact UPN/KBSI at 334-1223. It broadcasts from 6 a.m. to 2 a.m. daily.

No more recycling

NO MORE recycling for me if 60 cents is being put on the trash. If we have to pay for regular trash and recycling, vote to heck with recycling.

Enough is enough

How come everybody's so focused on Timothy McVeigh? It's like O.J. Simpson, haven't we had enough? I think so.
