I'VE GOT a couple of comments about two calls in Speak Out. Regarding Hillary Clinton not being stupid: I agree. She's very intelligent as most socialists, communists, fascists and Nazis have been. Study your unrevised history. Hillary has always been an devout socialist. No, she's not stupid by any means. The stupid ones are those with their herd mentality who allow themselves to be dumbed down and brainwashed and who blindly follow the smart but evil leaders over the cliff. To the person who blindly stated that Jo Ann Emerson does not hear the people: What biased rock are you hiding under? I have begged Jo Ann's folks and my senators to the point they know me by voice. I always get courteous, prompt and detailed answers. I even confronted Jo Ann face to face recently about certain issues. She scribbled some notes, and I got a call directly from Washington, D.C., the next day that my info was in the mail. Please recognize the difference between ignorance and stupidity. Make an effort to at least cross the line back to the former until you can get some help.
WHO SAYS there is no right-wing conspiracy? Newt Gingrich continued his get-Bill Clinton strategy through the recently released dirty campaign TV ads. Even though the Republicans have crucified the president of the United States on an impeachable charge, they now have to try to use him negatively to get their turned-off voters back to the polls instead of exposing further the do-nothing Congress. I'm an independent voter.
I LIVE in an area where I can view several television markets. Because of this I have seen campaign commercials from Kentucky, Illinois, Southeast Missouri and the St. Louis area. What is amazing to me is that all the commercials the Democrats run are basically the same. First, they lie about the Republicans' record on Social Security, Medicare, education and everything else. The Democrats then start acting like first graders and start calling the Republicans names. According to the Democrats, every Republican is an extremist, radical or just plain dangerous. The Democrats' ads are just pathetic. We all know that Bill Clinton is a liar, but do all the other Democrats have to act in the same manner?
I JUST was reading Time magazine, and I'm really enjoying it. I see in it that there's an author who has a book coming out in the next few days listing 50 members of Congress who have been caught doing things that are illegal, immoral and fattening, and I think some of you people are going to have a lot of egg on your face. I think you ought to publicize the book and let everybody read it, and then we'll decide who's the worst.
I'M WONDERING if Joe Sullivan's old brown car is trying to tell him something: Get out of the car, walk into the bank, walk into the cleaners and maybe take a walk and sit down at the fast-food restaurant. Maybe he spends too much time in the old brown car.
I WAS enjoying my day off with a brisk walk around County Park when a fellow from the park department pulled up beside me and ask that I not walk on the road because it was so foggy. While his comment was well intended, I felt it quite unnecessary. I thought to myself: Who put up the sign halfway around a one-way drive to walk facing traffic. Why did he think I came to the park anyway? Besides, his vehicle was the only one I saw moving in the park. While I drove home thinking about our overburdening of rules, I passed a jogger on Lexington. I felt like stopping and telling him how dangerous that was in this fog and he should go to the park. Just stay off the road.
MR. CLINTON has lied to a grand jury, to his friends, to his lawyers, to his wife, to the whole nation. He's committed adultery not once, but time and time again. His perversion has become the joke and disgrace of this nation and the world. His defense attacks prosecutors, women, Christian leaders, others who have had an affair, anyone who doesn't agree with his view. His excuses are bad childhood, bad marriage, bad judgment. Our country will not recover from this or its continued moral slide, because now the majority of our country doesn't have a moral conscience anymore. It's called liberalism.
WE CITIZENS of Jackson are very proud of our city. It infuriates me that some people fail to take their garage sale signs down when their sale is over. I suggest the police pick up these signs on Saturday afternoon and take them to their respective addresses and collect a $10 fine for littering. I'm sure that $10 fine will get these people to clean up their act. It is ridiculous for this old torn signs to be still up a week after the garage sale is over.
I'D JUST like to make a comment about Bill Clinton. I know why Hollywood is so crazy and likes him so much. Because he is the best actor I've ever seen.
I READ in your Oct. 30 paper about possible exit tests for high school graduates. Barbara Kutz from Perryville commented that if every school had the motivation to succeed in school to pass that driver's test, we wouldn't have a problem. I think that's an interesting point she brought up. On another issue in that same area, Texas has a law that says if a student misses more than 10 or 15 days of school in the previous year before they turn 16, they cannot get a driver's license. Also, if they're not passing all of their classes, they cannot get a driver's license. They must submit a statement from their school secretary showing attendance and passing their classes before they can get a driver's license. If the principal wants to deny them that based on the behavior and discipline problems, they can refuse to sign that statement. Therefore, lack of success in school keeps them from getting a driver's license until they are 18. So that might be something we in Missouri want to look at and tie together getting their driver's license. If they're not studious enough to apply themselves in school and responsible enough to do what needs to get done, how responsible are they with a car.
CONCERNING THE changing of Highway 74 from Cape to Dutchtown into four lanes, I would like to give my observations. Many times I have sat at Dutchtown junction to cross traffic simply because oncoming traffic making a right or left hand turn never showed a signal even though they intend to turn. This is essentially slowing traffic. Getting away from stop signs, a little common courtesy from drivers would help traffic flow.
