YOU FOLKS from Jackson, I know you have a complaint about baseball. We in Cape Girardeau have the very same complaint. There is no difference. I do know this, they do work with all the kids, and they tell them a lot of the mistakes they do, but you never hear them talk about their own sons' mistakes. I know you are right. There are boys on the team who can outplay the coach's son, but they don't play them that way. I know how you feel...

More complaints about coaching

It was tear gas in Waco

THIS IS to the a Speak Out caller who had a problem with the gas that was used in Waco and compared it to Vietnam. First of all, your statement is incorrect. Bill Clinton never authorized using that gas. That was the state militia's decision. It was tear gas. It had nothing to do with poisonous or noxious gas. They were trying to drive them out of the compound where they were stockpiling guns.

Buy storm radio or a scanner

THESE COMMENTS concerning weather sirens for Cape: I remember when Cape Girardeau tried a weather-warning system. There was a siren at the corner of Caruthers and Thelaneus. Living only two blocks away, our family couldn't hear it. Cost would be prohibitive in a town with so many hills. Many homes are fairly soundproof with storm windows, air conditioners, TVs. Outside noises are often screened. Purchasing a weather radio or police scanner to keep up with storm warnings offers more security and is more economically feasible.

Vote for best record, not party

YES, FOLKS. I would like to say this fall when it comes time to vote, I don't think any of us should vote Republican or Democrat. I think we should look at all candidates record and then vote for who has best record for the working man and everybody else.

Congress is addicted too

CONGRESS WILL take care of tobacco addiction only if they can cure their own addiction to tobacco industry campaign contributions they so readily accept.

Canada has good health plan

CONCERNING NATIONAL health care, I got it from the horse's mouth. I looked into the Canadian plan. I have a friend in Canada. He is a pastor from the church I once attended. He went back to his native land. He sent me some literature about just what it is. It's $300 a year per person for the insurance plan. Then they say they put you on a waiting list in Canada. But I understand that you don't go on the list if you have to have surgery which is life-threatening. It's not a perfect plan, and there is abuse, but it is a plan that is better than nothing, and it helps a lot of people out there who doesn't have health care. I am talking about our working poor here whose employers don't furnish health insurance or the people who aren't ready for health care yet. That is something everyone should have: some kind of health care. Their plan certainly seems to be great plan. We are the strongest country. Stop listening to the insurance companies and Wall Street millionaires, and let's get us a health-care plan. Clinton had a wonderful plan, but the big insurance companies beat him, and we let them do it. Everyone at times needs health insurance, if you have health insurance today you are blessed, but you may not have it tomorrow. Then what do you do. Thank you.
