Gore wants taxes

I AM replying to the comment is Speak Out about how the rich rely on the poor. The people they call rich are the ones who give the poor people jobs. If the poor people want to do the same type of managing and spending as a rich person did getting rich, they can be rich also. This myth that Democrats are for he poor is a bunch or malarkey. I was raised under the same thinking, but I got to thinking for myself. The Democrats are the ones who lay all the taxes on the poor people and other people.. They have never seen a tax they didn't like. Gore is talking about increasing taxes, so you better wake up or you are going to be paying more taxes if you vote Democratic.

Politics has changed

I'M MORE than a little irritated at some things I've read in the paper lately. My husband and I have worked hard to get where we are. We're just a middle-class family with four children. No one has given us what we have. We've worked for it. That's the way we were raised, and that's what the ethics of this country used to be about. It's no longer our country's aim. When I was growing up, I always knew there were two separate political parties, each with different ideas. But I always thought they were both basically in support of each person trying to be the best they could be and achieving as much as they could on their own. I don't think that's true any more. I believe the Democrats have become more of a socialist party. I have no problem at all with helping someone out, but I don't believe we should have to give up what we've worked hard to earn in order to support everyone else who has less than we do. That's not the democratic way. I'm tired of the current administration, and the thought of Gore winning scares the heck out of me. I'm praying that Bush is elected, and I'll be glad to give a little of my money to Alec Baldwin and any of the others like him who want to leave.

Independent thinking

I'VE ALWAYS considered myself to be a Republican, but it's obvious to me that global warming is a very real thing. It's something we have to consider just as we have to consider the harm of chemicals and what we are doing to ourselves. I don't need some Republican writing a long letter telling me that global warming is a farce. I am an independent thinker. I know the harm chemicals can do.

Alternative fuel

I CAN'T believe politicians are that stupid to not push alternative fuel -- alcohol, gasohol, ethanol or whatever you want to call it. It would help the farmers and create a new industry that would help America's industry 100 percent. I know there's one company that's pushing it pretty hard, but they seem to be going nowhere for the past 10 years. We would never run out of man-made fuel, instead of using this stupid fossil fuel that you have to import from other countries unless you use your own, which the environmentalists will not let us use.

Talk about farming

I'D LIKE to know why these gubernatorial candidates cannot talk about the biggest issue in Southeast Missouri: farming. I'd like to hear some answers on farming from them in the future.

All chickens alike

SURE IS funny how patriotism paves the way when Republican candidates Bush and Cheney used political connections, student deferments, and parental deferments to avoid service in Vietnam. Back when Bill Clinton used the system to avoid service in the military, Republicans called it a terrible lack of patriotism. But when your own chickens work the system, you're strangely silent. Funny how your morality is oddly political, like the phony Republicans usually are. Your chicken hawks are not fit to be elected if Bill Clinton wasn't.

Mailbox vandalism

THIS PAST week, three mailboxes on West Cape Rock Drive were totally demolished in broad daylight by the driver of a car who did not stop. We neighbors want to thank our mailman for his kindness in bringing our mail to our door until we can get our new boxes up. If anyone has information regarding this incident, please contact the police.
