Hats off to police KUDOS TO the Missourian for the story on law enforcement a few days ago. A bigger voice of support goes out to our Cape Girardeau Police Department, which puts up with the ridiculous bickering of people in this town. The police are well-trained, do their jobs well and are wonderful people. Keep up the good work, Cape PD. And, city council, make sure they get what they need to keep them safe and continue their service of excellence...

KUDOS TO the Missourian for the story on law enforcement a few days ago. A bigger voice of support goes out to our Cape Girardeau Police Department, which puts up with the ridiculous bickering of people in this town. The police are well-trained, do their jobs well and are wonderful people. Keep up the good work, Cape PD. And, city council, make sure they get what they need to keep them safe and continue their service of excellence.

Hiding weapons

PEOPLE HAVE doubted the weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, and they don't account for the fact that the weapons may be hidden who knows where. I wonder what they think about the missing 380 tons of explosives. If they could hide 380 tons of stuff, why couldn't they hide a missile or whatever?

Who cares?

WHO CARES about the Confederacy? They lost the war. That's the bottom line. This is America. It won't ever become the Confederacy again.

Looking for Osama

I CAN'T understand how in this day of all the technology we have we still cannot find Osama bin Laden. We've captured Saddam Hussein and all of his henchmen. Yet this one man eludes us. We've spent more time worrying about Iraq than the true leaders of terrorism worldwide. Granted, al-Qaida has many heads, and taking Osama bin Laden out would not stop it completely. But it would certainly give us a moral boost. And the $87 billion plus that we're sending to Iraq would have gone a long way toward strengthening our own borders and maybe even have a little left over for some health care for the elderly.

To-do about doodoo

I'M CALLING about people allowing their dogs to make messes in their neighbors' yards. I did not realize that was against the law. I think there are a lot of people who didn't realize that. I'm wondering if it is against the law for a dog to go in its own yard. Our neighbor's dog is inside an electric fences. It has a tendency to get as close to our yard as it can to go. It's not quite in our yard, but it's more in our yard than in their yard. I've talked to another neighbor who's having the same problem. Is there anyway you can get a person to clean up after a dog, even though the dog is technically is in its own yard?

Wipers and headlights

IT IS Missouri law, as of this summer, when your windshield wipers are on, your headlights are to be on.

Live your dream

CONGRATULATIONS TO the girl football player. She is a positive role model for younger girls. Anything you set your mind to you can accomplish. After all, this is what America is all about: being able to live your dream.

The real problem

THE PERSON who expressed moral outrage regarding hooker Halloween costumes being sold in Cape Girardeau needs a reality check. There are real hookers walking the streets in some parts of Cape Girardeau. Where is the outrage over them? What is worse: real prostitutes spreading disease, or people dressing up as prostitutes for Halloween to have a good time?

Teaching respect

I BELIEVE men teach their little boys to be aggressive, assertive and, in extreme cases, abusive to women and people who are different. Eliminating oppression begins with you and me. Congratulations to the young lady for having the courage to stand up for herself and to assert her right to play football. She taught the boys to respect her. Bravo.

Great bumper sticker

I SAW a great bumper sticker the other day: "God Bless the World." There are probably people out there who think there are big black lines visible from space delineating one country from the next. God doesn't care about what your nationality is, just like he doesn't care about your color, height or weight. I'd like to see more stickers like that one instead of the selfish ones sported on most other cars.
