No obstacle
THANK YOU, David Limbaugh, for your Oct. 13 column. I have been a fan of your brother for many years. I am also sure that no obstacle will stand in his way. I pray for him daily.
Pie in the sky
STATE REP. Peter Myers recently told us what he believes to be the truth about farmers. In case you missed Myers' missive, the essence was that taxpayers need to keep on subsidizing those who till the soil. I agree. To me, the rest of Myers' piece was more or less pie-in-the-sky wishful thinking that the day will come when farmers won't have to feed at the taxpayers trough.
Catch the pranksters
I THINK people are getting out of hand on all of this junk going around. I hope the people threatening to bomb places and sending junk through the mail get caught. I hope people who suffer from lack of attention get help with their problem.
Need good coaching
TO THE parent who said the Central High School football team is in excellent physical condition: With all due respect, I disagree. But it is not a knock at the boys, because they are only doing what the coaches guide them to do. Central needs a knowledgeable strength coach who challenges and motivates these young men. If you lead, these kids will follow.
And now, the truth
BILL CLINTON says he didn't take out Osama bin Laden because he didn't have the intelligence to do so. Sounds to me like he's actually telling the truth for a change.
A learning place
HORRIBLE PARKING was said to be by a SEMO student the No. 1 complaint of those of his family who had attended the university. I attended SEMO and I had several complaints besides that one. The campus is too hilly and I was winded and often worn out by the time I got to class, particularly those held in Academic Hall. The classes were too hard. I couldn't act up like I did in high school. And even though it was a period of university-based student protests of one kind or another, SEMO administrators wouldn't put up with hippie-style dress or protests. The only thing they cared about was to see that students learned something. Yuk.
Terrorists are around
NO MATTER if this is Cape Girardeau or New York there are still terrorists running around. Why should we not be careful? Anthrax is, by far, the easiest biological agent to produce and use as a weapon. Production of anthrax as a biological weapon does not require special equipment or advanced technology.
The real world
LIBERTARIAN JAMES Nall recently alleged there was no such thing as gas price gouging because we have a free market. Though it may be a hopeless endeavor, will someone please attempt to educate Nall as to the nature of the real world?
Don't need to know
I CANNOT believe some of the things I am hearing over the airwaves. I am speaking of the news media asking government officials certain questions. I cannot believe these same people would tell how much vaccine we have to treat anthrax. Some things the public doesn't need to know, especially in time of war.
Don't forget them
I'VE NOTICED the last several weeks at noon the radio stations are playing "God Bless America," and I know this is in regard to what happened Sept. 11. I want to say thank you. I think it is a nice gesture. However, I heard the introduction, which says it is in memory of the people killed in our nation's capital and in New York. There is no mention of the people killed in Pennsylvania. If I had a family member who was killed on that flight, I would feel like this was a slap in the face. Thanks for doing this, but I think the radio stations should add the people killed in Pennsylvania.
Give us protection
I WOULD rather the police department have 100 false alarms on anthrax in our mail than one positive one. They should do their job and relieve our fears. They are paid to protect us all.
They get good care
AGE DOESN'T wear out fire trucks. Probably a lot of them don't have too many miles on them, even if they are old. I'm still driving my 1974 Ford, which is in excellent condition because I've taken good care of it, just like the firefighters do of the fire trucks.
