A decent leader

WHAT SOUR grapes. Some Democrats whining that President Bush was showboating by landing on an aircraft carrier in a fighter plane. Wake up. He flew a fighter aircraft and enjoyed it. Praising our troops is showboating? I think not. There are many reasons why Bush is hated by liberals. He shows his patriotism and his love for his country. He believes in prayer and asks God for guidance and puts America first. Thank God for a decent leader.

Let off too easy

FRENCH EXPRESSION or road rage? This fellow was let off too easy. Had this been your average American to run someone off the road then reach inside another car and grab her -- well, do I need to say more?

Settlement questioned

AMERENUE IS receiving a return of $110 million due to a rate-reduction settlement approved by the Missouri Public Service Commission. The PSC determined AmerenUE rates were unreasonable. And AmerenUE is going to use $3 million to help the needy pay their bills and keep their power on. Speaking on behalf of my fellow needy citizens. What does AmerenUE intend to do with the other $107 million it has overcharged?

School traffic

AM I the only one who notices the traffic in front of Central High School? There are three to four lanes of traffic trying to rush in to pick up students. When I finally make it to the other side between Central and the career and technology center, I keep right because I'm going to make a right-hand turn at the stop sign. Several times I've had a car rush up in the left-hand side of the road and also make a right. They should at least put arrows on the road. I feel the school officials should be patrolling a little bit better.

Not my problem

REPUBLICANS and the Democrats should be able to balance the budget. They'll just have to. The Republicans wanted a war against a man who was going to be dead within 10 years anyway. They wanted the war. OK, pay for it. We don't have any money. The taxpayers don't have any money. Nobody has money. It's their problem, not mine. I didn't want the war. I don't see why I have a problem.

Repaint the stripes

CAN'T JACKSON do something about the white marks on the streets at the big intersection? You can't see which lane to stay in to make the turn to go on U.S. 61. There's not even a mark close to the stop light to see.

Pooper-scooper law

I DON'T understand these people with dogs who let them mess in your yard as they go for a walk. Other states have a law that if dogs leave a mess, you can fine the owner? I think it's high time Missouri does the same thing.

Ban muffler noise

MUCH LOUD noise could be eliminated if the Jackson Board of Aldermen enacted an ordinance prohibiting the use of exhaust braking. Notices would need to be posted at the four main city entrances.

Too much park noise

JACKSON: CLOSE the park at 10 p.m. to all vehicles, loud music and congregating and enforce it. Neighbors should be able to sleep, not hear loud noise. Heavy fines should be levied against all violators, and repeaters should be jailed. Working men and women and their families need their rest, sleep and peace. No excuses.

Buy American

NOW THAT we know the SARS virus in China can last over two months on common, everyday surfaces, do you really want to buy shirts and shoes made in China? I think it's time to buy American products.

No means no

THIS IS concerning the vote in which Cape Girardeau people said no. I think it's time the city started doing what the voters say. No is supposed to mean no. We are the ones who pay the taxes.
