WHY DON'T the media leave Marty Keys alone? The past is gone, and Keys has done nothing wrong in Chaffee or Scott City. Leave this man alone so he can go to work and support his family.
I HAVE noticed something subtle in the media. When reporting on news from Iraq, they will often mention that the attacks on our troops and on civilians are being carried out by al-Qaida briefly and without too much emphasis. However, during the commentary and interview shows, they are always careful to make it appear as if everything in Iraq is being conducted by insurgents in some type of civil war. Do you think there might be some bias in the reporting?
I REALIZE animals aren't the most important thing to some. I realize people die in tragic ways and there is a war going on and people are starving. But I am tired of watching my neighbor's dog be abused, tied to a tree and left without food or water. I'm tired of calling the Jackson police about it and nothing is done. I'm tired of calling the animal shelter and being referred to an investigator who never returns my call. Am I supposed to stand by and watch this animal be mistreated because he is a mere dog? I hate the things that go on in our world today. People have lost their compassion. When does it end? What will it take for people to care?
ARE YOU kidding me? I love dogs as much as the next person. I own a dog. Do you think it's that smart to let every person who wants to bring their dog to the fair? Can you imagine the dog fights, scared people who don't like dogs and the little surprises everywhere on the midway? Where has common sense gone?
I'M CALLING in regard to the ordinance Cape Girar-deau is trying to pass to regulate shuttle and taxi services, which would include all the nursing homes and charitable organizations that operate shuttle buses. This ordinance will increase their costs and have strict regulations on all their drivers. This would include all the drivers to be regulated by the city and licensed by the city. I would hope that all of these organizations are aware and will be opposed to this ordinance because of the great cost and restrictions to their drivers.
IT'S BAD enough that the Dana Corp. plant closed and everybody lost their jobs. Now all the stock they bought for their retirement has been declared worthless. What next?
THIS IS for the social worker who wants the working class to make a difference or stop complaining. Yes, I do have a right to complain. Two members of my own extended family choose not to work even though they are capable in every way. Social services have nearly beaten down their door to hand them free medical care and food stamps. I spoke to a caseworker who shares my disgust with this system. She tells me there are few investigations done to determine who actually deserve services. Why? I work my butt off, pay for my food with my money and pay out of pocket for my health care. I work so I won't be a burden on society and so I can respect myself. I have no respect for people who deliberately abuse the system or for those who staunchly defend them.
DEAR READERS, please give blood. Blood banks are at an all-time low. The life you save might be your own or someone you love. Thank you.
UNTIL PRESIDENT Bush has a firm plan of how to get out of this mess he took us into, Congress should do everything it can to force him to come up with a real plan on how to bring our men and women home and to have a firm plan to end this war. Bush got the U.S. into his dream world. Now he must get us out while we still have a chance. Then he must do what he said he would do and bring Osama bin Laden down.
WHY DO people sit in jail for stupid things, but crackheads and drug dealers are still on the streets? I would rather my son be living on the same street as someone who drove on a revoked license than the same street as a crackhead or drug dealer.
THE SECOND Amendment gives all persons the right to bear arms. It does not exclude felons. Quit trying to suppress liberty.
SINCE GEN. David Petraeus has become the de facto commander in chief, it would put President Bush in a bind if the general backed off his stay-the-course assessment of the Iraqi situation. As requested, I will call my federal legislators and remind them that they are not the commander in chief. At the same time, I will tell them to remind President Bush that neither is Gen. David Petraeus.
