Clean up towns

HOORAY FOR Oran police chief Marc Tragesser. Imagine living in a small town where someone wants dogs controlled, traffic laws enforced and trash and other nuisances cleaned up. If a town with 1,200 residents can do this, why can't towns like Marble Hill do the same? Surely the larger towns have approximately the same resources.

Gnat-straining

"CONGRESS STRUGGLES with gas prices." "Congress struggles with immigration reform." "Congress struggles with Social Security and Medicare issues." The incompetent, irresponsible, arrogant U.S. Senate was in such a rush to pass its massive immigration-reform gift-box for illegals and those who are enriched by them that it overstepped the bounds of its authority. Gnat-straining, camel-swallowing champs. (Matthew 23:24-5: "Ye blind guides, which strain at a gnat, and swallow a camel. Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess."

Thanks for basset

I WANT to thank the woman who found my basset in Scott City. I love him so much. I didn't think I would get him back. Thank you.

Not enough time

IF YOU all want to talk about the quality of the lunches offered in the Jackson School District, I think we need to address the length of time students have to eat. My daughter has about 20 minutes to eat her lunch. The majority of that time is spent standing in line to get it, which leaves her with 5 to 10 minutes to scarf down all her lunch before going back to class. There have been times she has had to throw some of her food away because she doesn't have time to eat it. When she gets home after her 1 1/2 hour bus ride in the afternoon, she is starving.

New political faces

WITH THE midterm elections coming up, I believe the voters in November are going to do some firings in the current Congress, which is so out of touch with the common citizen it is not funny anymore. We need new faces, people who care about middle-class America. People are tired of the Bushes and Clintons, and I strongly believe in 2008 they will elect someone as our president who is a new face with a new beginning and who cares about the needs of middle America. This is a good time for an independent to step forward and become a national candidate.

Mainstream progress

SINCE DAVID Limbaugh wrote that the mainstream media paid little or no attention to the death of al-Zarqawi, and whereas ABC's "World News Tonight" devoted practically an entire program to it, it must be clear to all that "World News Tonight" is no longer a member of the mainstream or what some call the drive-by media. This is progress.

Por favor

THUMBS UP to members of Congress who fully understand that Los Estados Unidos is not Mexico and that El Norte has a culture, history and expectations particular to itself. Please call your congressman and say that the illegal apologists may say "si se puede," but we citizens are saying "enforce before handing out guest passes."

It's not working

TWO-WAY traffic on Main Street is not working out. Parking is a lot more difficult than it used to be. Come on, city council. Let's say it was worth trying, but it was really better the way it was.
