Magnificent music

I WENT to the Southeast Missouri State University commencement and I heard the SEMO band play under Dr. Edgerton. It was absolutely magnificent. I could not tell if I was listening to a tape of Mozart or I was actually listening to the band. The music was beautiful, and everyone performed magically.

Excellent column

MY COMPLIMENTS to Tony Rehagen for his column on business affairs in Cape. It is excellent. Thank you.

Thanks for dog

I WANT to thank Judith Davis on Luce Street for finding our toy Pomeranian. She is so sweet. She went around the neighborhood knocking on doors to find the owner of this little dog, and we want to thank her. God bless you.

Great pop concert

I WANT to let Jackson High School know how much I enjoyed the pop concert. I'm a 79-year-old grandmother. If I had had another ticket, I would have gone again. Next time I'll just buy two tickets. I was so proud of all the kids and their teachers. They made me proud just to be a Jackson High School grandmother.

Go with Eagles

AN alumnus of Southeast Missouri State University, I am opposed to changing the Indian name. However if the name must be changed, then I would go with Golden Eagles. Red Hawks or Red Wolves just doesn't do anything.

Obesity is abuse

LETTING A person or kid become overweight or cause them to become overweight is not love or compassion. It is abuse, and there's no other explanation for it.

Keep library open

I AM very disappointed in the leadership at the Cape Girardeau Public Library. I've been requesting, as have other teachers, that they keep open on Sunday. Our students still are in school, they still have finals and papers due this month, yet the library refuses to extend Sunday hours through the month of May. Library officials tell me they keep the library open on Sundays during the school year. School's not out until the end May. We're not asking for a whole lot, just a little consideration for the patrons.

Big dog problem

THIS IS a dog problem. I have called several times about a big dog that is allowed to run without a leash. It's becoming a big nuisance. I understand the dog's owners have been contacted about this, but I guess if you know someone you can get away with anything. We do not want this dog taking over our yards and bushes and barking all night long. Please help us.

Time for action

I AM I so sick of hearing the flimsy excuses that these people are using to justify the rising cost in gasoline, natural gas and everything else that's going up. Everyone is getting on the bandwagon. This is all uncalled for. Milk's going up to $4 a gallon because the farmers sold their cows off for beef. Still beef is sky high too, so how do you figure that? Everything we buy in stores now is made in China. China has taken our jobs, and now they're trying to buy all the oil on the market. When are our legislators going to start taking care of the workers and axpayers?

Unnecessary spending

I CAN'T believe city attorney Tom Ludwig cost Jackson $100,000 in a sewer dispute. Then he charges the city $9,500 in attorney fees. I bet if the money had come out of his pocket, he would have remembered the alternate route at a much lower cost for the sewer.

Red is stereotype too

IF SOUTHEAST Missouri State University is trying to get rid of the Indian names, I wonder why it is holding steadfastly to using the word "red" in the nickname. Why use the color red? Isn't that a stereotype too? I think if they want to get rid of the stereotypes, get rid of the color red as well. We don't need that either.
