Background checks for gun purchases failed. Could background checks for pressure cookers be next on the president's agenda? More Band Aids rather than deal with the human beings responsible.
Many wonder how our government agencies have gotten out of control. Here is an example. In the Carter years the Department of Energy was created to help lessen our dependence on foreign oil, which at that time we counted on 30 percent of our oil from foreign vendors. Now, many years later, thousands of employees are employed by this department, billions of dollars are spent, and we are at 70 percent dependent on foreign oil. Go figure.
Before the Cape public schools go hog wild and buy a computer for every high school child, I think at least there should be a series of school-board sponsored public forums to discuss the pros and cons of such a costly taxpayer investment.
If gas station operators still plan to go to prepay pumps, I will take my business to stations that treat customers as guests, not criminals. I have never been a thief and will not prejudge all people as criminals for the actions of a few. Make our courts more conservative and let the punishment fit the crime. Prosecute the thief, not the customer.
It looks like I will not be filling up my tanks anymore as I don't know how much it will take; so I will just buy $10 at a time, I guess. Just because the companies that own the gas stations only want to have one attendant there to do all the work so they make more profit. We had shoplifters when I worked in the grocery business, but we had enough employees that we caught several and made others think before doing so.
The politicians are jumping all over the Boston Marathon bombing, but they are not saying anything about the West, Texas, explosion, which killed way more people and injured many more. That will be forgotten and forgiven. Yes, money talks in politics. So many things were wrong in West, Texas. How was it that they could store so much near a school and nursing home as well as a residential area? Politics is why.
There's just no other way to look at it. The failure of Missouri Republican legislators to support already fully funded Medicaid expansion in Missouri means, in my view, that the coldhearted contempt for the poor allegation often levied against Missouri Republican state legislators is now sadly proven. The poverty stricken have been sacrificed for the most cynical of reasons: perceived political gain.
NRA members always say "guns don't kill people, people kill people." So why don't they want background checks for people?
