Outraged at Rush

I AM very outraged at Rush Limbaugh and all the commentators and talk shows on television. I think they have blood on their hands after the Oklahoma City bombing. They spew their hatred against our president and so-called liberals of this country. I think they need to relook their comments and what they've done to this country. There's just no sense in having much hatred against our president and other so-called liberals, and I hope that they would change their thinking, particularly after the incident in Oklahoma City.

President of radicals

BILL CLINTON is not the president of the United States. He is president of the radicals, the radical women's groups, the homosexual community, the abortionists, welfare bums and Hollywood, all the negatives in our society. How dare he attack the majority conservative Americans who are demanding a return to family values and end to crime in our streets and crime in our government. Is it a cover-up for his bungling of Waco or just his politics as usual, even in the face of such a tragedy?

Good stewards

I WAS thrilled when I saw that someone was able to use the furniture that we put out on the curb. It's better than seeing your things getting crunched and dumped. I don't call these people scavengers, I call them good stewards. Maybe they were able to help someone else. I was glad to part of it.

City of Rubbish?

THE CITY of Roses? Or Rubbish? The city would like us to think everything is rosy, but the fact of the matter is city officials are unable to enforce sanitation laws imposed on restaurants. Officials have been notified Friday, Saturday, Monday and Tuesday about excess rubbish outside a downtown restaurant and have been unable to get the overflowing trash container and countless number of trash and boxes piled alongside a sidewalk cleaned up. This does reflect on the city, because after all is said and one it is still a public parking lot.

Don't blame talk radio

PRESIDENT CLINTON, please stop blaming innocent people like talk radio and local militia for what took place in Oklahoma City. By doing this, you are acting just as the bombers did. You are asking the innocent to suffer for something they did not do. Our country has been going downhill morally and spiritually for years. When criminals have more rights than their victims, we must have a serious problem. If you listened to Mr. Graham's sermon, don't let the devil enter your heart and make things even worse for this country.

I WAS extremely alarmed by Jay Eastlick's column. With the cruel, evil bombing of the federal building in Oklahoma City last week, we don't need any extreme, right-wing articles holding up a fringe element like that of David Koresh as heroes when they killed government employees and had many days to admit federal agents to their compound, just like any law-abiding citizen would be expected to do. Jay quotes supposed experts on the matter. They are experts because they agree with him, but he ignores a federal inquiry because those experts disagreed with him. We don't need such an extremist writing for our local paper, and I'm sorry to hear his views.

New Hamburg's schools

IF SOME New Hamburg school board members have any conscience at all, they should resign and take a couple of their pet teachers with them. Then we New Hamburg people may get out school back.

City pay increases

PLEASE HELP. We are all city employees who will be getting the short end of the stick, so to speak. The problem is this. We have been told that there isn't money available for raises. We can accept that, but then we find out all salaried personnel will be receiving a five to seven percent raise. Doesn't sound like much, but five percent of $30,000 is a $1,500 raise. We, as the people who pick the trash, repair the streets, treat your waste water, clean your sewer lines, remove the snow and storm damage and do other jobs too numerous to mention for the citizens of Cape, feel we should be entitled to a sufficient raise also. So we are asking the citizens of Cape Girardeau for their help. Contact your councilman, your city manager and let them know. It's the men out there doing the work who count. We are tired of being overlooked, underpaid and not appreciated.

Rush is mean-spirited

I HAVE avoided calling regarding Rush Limbaugh. He's a hate-monger. I think we've seen the results of hate this past week, and I think he's right there in the forefront of it. Anyone who would call the president of the United States the names that he has called Bill Clinton and would try to diminish his family is mean-spirited. I think all he has to do is look himself in the face and think about what's happened this past weekend with people like him.

Cardinals on TV?

KFVS, KBSI: Please, please do whatever you can this year to carry some Cardinals baseball. In the cable system we have, we don't get KPLR where those games are on all the time. We get totally gypped and cheated out of them, and I'm not sure exactly what the cable networks will be doing this year.

Mourning for Waco

WHERE WAS Slick Willie's mourning period for the 22 children who were burned alive in Waco? Where was the memorial service for them? They were just as innocent as these other children. Slick Willie is nothing but a politician. He's not anymore in mourning for these kids than anything. He's just trying to get back in office again. Janet Reno is one of the causes of this horrible thing happening because she ordered them to burn up the compound, push it in and burn it up.

Government monster

I THINK that the bombing in Oklahoma was a terrible, deplorable act. I would never condone this type of violent behavior, but I believe more of these things will be going as our federal government keeps getting worse and worse. Our government has created a wild, ravenous monster that will surely never be tamed but eventually die or destroy itself. These people have created millions of do-nothing, pencil-pushing, paper-shuffling jobs for themselves, and they call it providing a service and doing important work. In all honesty the majority of these people are doing very little. And in some ways, they're more harm to the taxpayer than our retired elderly or welfare recipients. Most of these people do nothing and get five to 10 times the money. Rather than cut their jobs, they want to cut welfare, school lunches and attack Social Security. Well for anyone out there who has any sense to use their minds, we need to wake up and look up the road, because I think the bridge may be out up ahead. God help this country, because I think the people in D.C. are only going to help themselves.

Bombing connections

CONCERNING the Oklahoma bombing: If the government had not murdered men, women and children at Waco and if the government had not murdered the wife of Randy Weaver and his 15-year-old son at Ruby Ridge, Idaho, there would never have been a bombing at Oklahoma City. I think the liberal media is wrong in trying to single out these militias as being dangerous people. They are not. In fact, we need one right down here.
