I WANT to commend the neighbors of the little girl in Jackson for their attitude at a time like this. I hope the prosecuting attorney, Morley Swingle, finds out who the father is and what age he is. He should suffer the consequences and know that these things just can't be passed on.
I AGREE that athletes do most of the bullying in the schools. Where do these athletes learn it? It starts at home when they see their parents laugh at a fat person, when they see their parents laugh at a disabled person, when they see their parents laugh at a weak person. If they aren't being taught in the home to respect others, they will never learn it on their own.
MY HEART goes out to the 14-year-old girl who obviously felt she had to give birth and bury her dead baby and was unable to go to an adult. I wonder where her mother was in all this. Don't we realize as parents that we must be there for our children until they become of age? With all the legalized abortions going on, we've taught our children very well, haven't we?
NOW THAT the census figures have revealed a 29 percent increase in Jackson's population, perhaps those who so strongly opposed the Jackson school bond issues will back off and admit they were wrong and start to show some support for the school system. We don't put 10 pounds of potatoes into a seven-pound sack. Education in Jackson has always been a prime issue in which we can all take pride.
I WOULD like to know what kind of parenting the girl with the dead baby had. Who could do something that sick to her own child. I believe she needs some kind of punishment.
A GIRL who is adult enough to carry a child for nine months is definitely old enough to carry the consequences that follow.
I WISH the Jackson school board candidate forum had not been scheduled on the same night as the band concert. One of the programs that does the most tremendous job with the least amount of space is the band program. None of these parents could attend the forum because they were watching their kids.
I JUST want to congratulate the Notre Dame girls basketball team for an awesome season. Although they lost the state championship, I am so proud to call myself a student at Notre Dame. Good job, ladies.
NO MATTER what people say about how alone this 14-year-old girl was, it just isn't so. She wasn't alone when she conceived the baby. She didn't live in that house by herself. She wasn't alone when she baby-sat. People are trying to justify a horrible crime. That is what is wrong with the world today. If people under the age of 18 commit a crime, an excuse is made for them. If they commit adult crimes, they should be charged like adults.
IF MORE mothers were stay-at-home moms and worked harder to make their marriages last, we wouldn't have the problems we have today in our society. I appreciate my mother staying in a marriage that was less than good, because it benefited the whole family. I am thankful that my mom stayed in there. My life is easier as a result.
