Proud of family

To all of you that made snarky comments about the family living on the husband's receptionist salary, get a grip. I took this away from the story: He is earning enough to make a house payment, meet utilities, and provide for his family while allowing his wife to do the most important job in the family. She is raising their children. Anyone who believes this is not a full-time job needs to try it for one full week. Working mothers have to cram all that love, attention, teaching and raising into the "left over" time after the working hours. This family is to be praised. I am proud of them.

Match made in church

I was reading the article in the Missourian today on dating and meeting people. You know, I read all through that and the only places I ever saw mentioned are online or Facebook or bars. They never mentioned church. You know, church is a fantastic place to meet people. At least you don't have to worry about what kind of person they are.

Minimum wage

Regarding the Speak Out comment "Raising the minimum wage and starting your own business," well, if everyone did that, we wouldn't have to worry about minimum wage. And as far as getting off my lazy backside, well, those people working for minimum wage are the reasons most business owners are rich. Try owning a business without those minimum wage employees. So, give them a raise.

Take a stand

Christians, are we going to stand back like we've stood back from everything else and let the governor make our state one where gay marriages can be held? Right now, we have the same-sex marriage ban. But the governor is planning to support ending that ban. And Christians, are we going to stand back like we did with everything else? God's going to judge us one of these days by what we do and what we haven't done.

Business prospective

As a small business, if the minimum wage goes to $10.10 an hour, I have decided on three options to recover my increase in doing business. First, like many other businesses, I will raise prices. Second, since the beginning of my employees' health insurance plan, I have paid 100 percent of my employees' cost. With the increase in minimum wage, I will expect my employees to pay a portion of that cost. Third, I will need to figure out if I have employees who aren't worth $10.10 an hour and lay them off. There are some employees who are not worth the current minimum wage of $7.50 an hour.
