No Sport Left Behind

Congress is poised to roll back George Bush's one-size-fits-all No Child Left Behind as well as the more recent Common Core Standards. Thus, yet once again, when it comes to much needed education reform, we're back to square one. This is a reflection of the ongoing realization that when it comes to education reform, there never has been and never will be anything approaching a consensus among the American people as to what needs to be done, except for a virtual universal belief that anything and everything must be done to maintain a quality sports program.

One sided

I cannot believe that the Southeast Missourian printed such a one-sided article on global warming by The Associated Press on the front page of the Monday, Nov. 30, paper. That article was a prime example of why the public no longer trusts the mainstream media. The article was clearly written to promote the extreme left-wing political view of global warming.

Know the reason

Before you go too nuts over the link between CO2 and climate change, look at charts of temperatures over the last million years. You will see reoccurring spikes at consistent intervals that mirror what is occurring now. This climate change has happened before many times and several of the peaks had higher temps than today. Let's make sure we know the reason for climate change before we jump off the deep end and destroy ourselves for what Mother Nature is doing on her own.

ISIS, thin ice

Like the one-time Soviet Union, ISIS will collapse on its own accord. Its sources of income are drying up and the overtaxed population in the area it controls is fleeing. If it was a nation, it would be considered a failed state. Its members are not even considered the most dangerous terrorist group in the world. That ignominious distinction falls to Boko Haram, operating primarily in Africa.
