The more the better

REGARDING THE River City Players: The only play I have seen was fine. I've seen other plays at Rose Theatre, and I think there's room for the River City Players. If people are willing to pay the price, then that's saying there's a demand. I think there's room enough for everybody in Cape Girardeau.

Intersection lighting

I WANT to complain about the lack of street lighting at the intersection of Cape Rock Drive and North Kingshighway.

A future mayor?

ONE OF the Drurys should run for mayor of Cape Girardeau in the next election. He would win by a landslide. The Drury brand has left its mark on America and is widely known as a successful company with decades of hardworking commitment to excellence. A Drury mayor would put Cape Girardeau on the national map of recognition for leadership.

Afraid to attack

THE REASON why terrorists don't attack here, which they could easily do if they wanted to, is because they know better. They know if they start doing things over here, they will die instantly. We'll go to their country and bomb them. We'll destroy their lands.

Don't mess in leaves

I WISH people would keep their cats, dogs and kids out of the leaves their neighbors have worked so hard to rake for the city pickup.

Need better service

FIRST-CLASS postage is going up 2 cents. Mail delivery is terrible. We get our mail at 7:30 p.m. I think the U.S. Postal Service better get some more help so we get better service.

Using the money

I THINK since the hotel-restaurant tax revenue is going up this year, the increase should be used for things the city needs like public transportation and more street paving. Don't give it to restore an old home. Use it for all of the citizens, not just part of them.

Christmas all the way

AS I sat down with my freshly ground cup of Starbucks Christmas-blend coffee this morning, I began to read my paper. When I got to the Religion page, I found we are not having Christmas. We are having holiday happenings. And I noticed that we are shopping and preparing for the upcoming holiday. As I drank my coffee, I wondered if we so-called Christians have gotten so politically correct that we can't even say Christmas anymore. I made my decision. I'm drinking Christmas blend, and I'm making no apologies for it.

For stem-cell research

THE SOUTHEAST Missourian recently reported that the Roman Catholic Church has launched an intense campaign to oppose a constitutional amendment supporting stem-cell research in Missouri. This comes as no surprise, given the church's history of condemning such modern innovations as vaccination, transplantation, pain medicine and birth control. No doubt, poor Galileo would not have been surprised by the church's poor judgment on this issue. Missourians have wisely ignored the church's mandates on birth control for some time now. I hope they will continue to show great wisdom in the face of the church's lack of it and sign the petition for a constitutional amendment protecting stem-cell research.

Time for an increase

THIS IS in reference to a comment complaining about a 2-cent increase in first-class postage. It's been almost three years since the price of a stamp has increased, which is a long time. Two cents is not much at all for as much as it takes for the mail to get from one place to another. Try to take a letter yourself across two or three states for 39 cents. The U.S. Postal Service, all in all, is doing a good job, and the postage increases have not been nearly so high as a lot of other things.
