Wrong approach

Constitutional Amendment 3, Teacher Performance Evaluation, is a one-size-fits-all mandate that treats student as if they were numbers and stops teachers from treating them as individuals. We must make certain that students are critical thinkers and not just uninspired standardized test takers. This one-size-fits-all approach to educating our future leaders is just plain wrong. On Nov. 4, vote "no" on Amendment 3.

Lunch share

Recently, several talking heads on some major media outlets ridiculed a school for disciplining a student for sharing his lunch with another student. These talking heads felt that the student should have been lauded for an act of kindness. The reason the school has a policy of students not sharing their lunches (or food) is that the other student may have a life-threatening allergy to the food being shared. For example, if the student shared a peanut butter sandwhich with another student who had a life-threatening allergy to peanuts, the student with whom he shared could have died.

Here we go again spending $1.3 million for an addition to the water park but we can never seem to find any dollars to increase police pay. The city of Cape's leaders and dreamers want to spend millions to draw visitors and tourist by providing all of the sexy attractions possible but will not provide a deceit salary to those they expect to protect it all every day and night. Fact, Cape Girardeau violent crime rate is higher than the Missouri average as well as the U.S. average per capita. We also rank higher in most other crimes listed. Look it up. I did. It really does not matter how many toys you have if it is too dangerous to go out and play with them.
