America is exceptional

With what's happening in our country now, I hope everyone read Thomas Sowell's article in the Southeast Missourian. It's so frustrating and irritating, what's happening in our education in this country, especially ignoring the exceptionalism of America. When there's a disaster of any kind, our country is the first to respond with food, medicine, medical care and funds. Why some people think this country is the reason for all the bad things that are happening is beyond comprehension.

Be careful

I just saw on TV where there was another child hit. This was at Kansas City, Missouri and they left the scene. I think it is terrible. It is just like my grandson. He could've been killed too when he was hit at a gas station in Cape Girardeau and they left the scene. People need to be more careful and look at where they're going.

Ebola

Concerning the Ebola scare aboard the cruise ship, two other countries refused to allow docking; we should have been so smart.

City spend

Cape Splash has been a money maker. Not like the money wasted on a doggy park. Or fancy streets like Broadway that will require a lot of upkeep and actually slows the traffic flow.

Fire tax

"I maintain that every person who enjoys the protection of his life, liberty and property should bear his fair share of the cost of government in providing that protection..." -- Ezra Taft Benson. Vote to protect our lives, properties, liberties, and most importantly, our firefighters. Vote "yes" on the fire sales tax extension.

Cheer coverage

Kudos to the Speak Out caller who recently addressed this Southeast Missourian shortcoming. The athletic prowess of cheerleaders is at least equal if not superior to those for whom they cheer and that should continually be reflected by the coverage they receive in the Southeast Missourian.

Ballot issue

I hope everyone votes against all the proposed constitutional amendments for the simple fact that I believe our forefathers had more commonsense than the people we have in office now, and to change the constitution by representatives that are mostly wannabe personalities is a disaster waiting to happen.

Low information voter

Mike Jensen, you're better than that. Please stop using the dog whistle phrase "low information voters."
