A big shout out to my parents on County Road 318. This New Yorker hears all the time about the parents helping their neighbors, giving away blackberries and plowing their driveways for free. More folks should do good things for each other like they do. You'll feel so good when you do something for others. Try it.
I know he's a token, but I still thank you. In a desert of hot air, wind and false conservatism, Gene Lyons provides the Southeast Missourian Opinion page with an oracular oasis of truth. I lionize Gene Lyons.
I have talked to many people who raised concerns about the new trash system. I heard very few good comments about the proposed system. After the concerns were raised, I never saw one article where the mayor or city council addressed those concerns. They went ahead and made the decision to change the system. They are also going to enact new ordinances. I'm sure we will not have any say in the new ordinances either. Cape Girardeau is a hilly city and no consideration has been given to how these people will move these large trash cans. I know they have wheels. My current trash cans have wheels, and they're still too heavy for me. It does not matter how many people are concerned about the program. It is going to be shoved down our throats whether we like it or not. So much for freedom and a fair government.
IF we're going to ban smoking, why not drinking too? Smokers don't get in a car and kill someone.
