PRESIDENT Obama would have done more if he had a filibusterproof Congress. However, he does not. Therefore, he had to scale back some of his ideas and focus on the stimulus, health care, Wall Street reform and consumer protection. Other things he had to forget.

City raise

I read in the Southeast Missourian that the city of Cape Girardeau made an extra $700,000 from Cape Splash and the air show. The unplanned revenue for 2009 and 2010 should be spent to give some city employees a raise. The fire, police and the street department employees risk their lives every day.

Collect calls

IF you receive a collect phone call and you don't know who it's from, don't accept the phone call. I recently accepted a call from a person I didn't know. It ended up costing $12 for me to accept that call, and it was a wrong number. If you get a collect call, make sure it's from someone you know.

Reason to vote

THE lack of a cost of living adjustment in Social Security checks this year and a rise in Medicare premiums is another reason for senior citizens to get out and vote. Meanwhile, the Democrat controlled Congress has voted themselves a cost-of-living increase.

Flag replaced

THE Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3838 would like to thank the patriotic person who informed us that our U.S. flag was tattered and torn. We had a flag on order at the time, which is now being flown. We were remiss in not having a flag on hand. We thank you for informing us.

Lay off the president

ANY businessman knows it takes money to make money. We need to layoff President Obama.
