MY CHILDREN and I want to thank Jason Lindsey for the great job he does at Science Day and all the fun experiments. My children have an interest in science because of what he does. Thanks, KFVS12.
WHILE WE are dressing up the Main Street and Broadway business districts, let's not neglect our city parks. When will the winding road through Arena Park get a badly needed facelift? If we can't afford new asphalt, at least restripe the center lane and the shoulder areas. It is difficult to see where the road edges stop and the parking areas begin. Visibility is poor, especially at night. Add rain on the road and it creates a treacherous drive through an otherwise wonderful park.
TO THE person who said people should learn to think for themselves about global warming: That goes for those who have bought into the global-warming hysteria as well. The United Nations IPCC Report is a free download and should be read by everyone concerned about this subject. One thing I learned from reading the report is that, according to this consensus of expert climatologists, temperatures and sea levels are not going to rise nearly as fast as predicted in Al Gore's movie. Even in 100 years in a worse-case scenario, they will not rise nearly as fast as the alarmists are predicting. If you want to know what real scientists are saying about global warming, read the report. The facts will not be found by listening to pseudoclimatologists like Al Gore and Alan Journet.
I'D LIKE to comment on the Cape Girardeau County roads the commission wants to chip and seal. I did not vote for the sales-tax increase so we could have chip and seal. We voted for asphalt roads. I would not have voted for it if I knew this. Chip and seal is a waste of money, and it's going to cost the county.
THE COMMENT from the person who misses the ice rink shows a good reason why we don't need a water park. People won't support it enough for it to be worth the expense of upkeep. Nobody is going to take money out of his pocket and spend it when nothing comes back. That doesn't make sense.
I'M GLAD David Limbaugh clarified Rush Limbaugh's remarks. Rush wasn't referring to soldiers who are phony. He was referring to phonies who pretended to be soldiers. That's the difference.
COMICS ARE not always funny. Look closely and you will find that comics are about life and the lessons therein.
STEAL A doughnut, get five to 15 years in jail. Be a drug dealer, get out of jail again. Something's definitely wrong with our system.
ARE WE going to let a 52-cent doughnut cost the state $100,000 and maybe even $1 million over a 30-year period? Let's buy this guy a box of doughnuts and slap his hand and let him go. Apparently he was hungry. Stop wasting our tax dollars.
WHY IS tobacco constantly being targeted by our government? What about the serious obesity problem in this country and the severe health problems it is causing? Raising the cigarette taxes by a dollar is outrageous. Now the government is targeting alcohol for these taxes as well. What about all the unhealthy foods our children and adults are consuming? How about a tax on that too?
I LIVE in Jackson and I wish the people, especially on Adams and Bellevue streets, would watch their cats. There are so many cats that they keep running birds away from the bird feeder. They need to keep their cats inside.
IT'S INCREDIBLE. I just booked a flight out of Cape Girardeau Regional Airport to Cincinnati on Nov. 18. It's about time we get a functional airport again, but the cost is ridiculously overpriced. It's still cheaper to arrange BART transportation and fly in and out of St. Louis. I can't believe we have to fly into the nation's most expensive airport. This hurts my business tremendously.
DOESN'T "MOVE over, it's the law" refer to getting out of the way of police vehicles in emergency situations?
WILL THE Cape Girardeau County commissioners be able to avoid EPA regulations on a large chip-and-seal operation? Without a storm-water drainage plan, the sealing hydrocarbons will wash straight into your rural drinking water.
IT IS sad to read of so many unhappy people. All I read in Speak Out is people griping and complaining. Try changing the things you can and accepting the things you can't and see how much happier you'll be. Thank God you live in a free world.
WE ALL know David Limbaugh is vehemently anti-Democrat. But we don't know if he is what is currently being called a Republican Virtuecrat. These are usually supporters of the GOP such as the Rev. James Dobson who can't stomach the possibility of a pro-choice Republican nominee such as Rudy Guiliani for president. Dobson and those of like mind are said to be threatening to bolt the party if a pro-choice Republican is nominated. We all know who Limbaugh is against. It's time he started telling us who he is for.
NOTRE DAME Regional High School's Activity Week was such a success it caused jaw-dropping among the many wonderful participants.
