Time to celebrate
I HAVE high hopes for the coming year. I have the gift of life, the life that the Lord gave me. I have a lot to celebrate. I've had my spouse for several decades. So I have a lot to celebrate because of the hope the new year brings and because of the gift of life that the Lord has given me and someone to share it with and a family that I love.
Keeping wages down
ONE OF things that I do not and will not ever understand is why Cape Girardeau officials are not more welcoming to higher-paying corporate jobs. They are so concerned with keeping the pay scale low so that it won't hurt small business owners. The problem with this logic is Cape Girardeau is turning its back on all opportunities to improve itself.
Bring on the cameras
I AGREE with the suggestion to place cameras at intersections in Cape Girardeau. I drive through anywhere from six to 12 stoplights each day. At every stoplight I can count three to four cars running stoplights. I am not talking about going through on yellow, but running the light on red. Cameras could bring in a lot of revenue for the city, and I don't mind them at all. Why? Because I do not run stoplights. If cameras are not an option, could the police place cars at the key stoplights in town?
Warming data
I GOOGLED global warming and found incredible amounts of scientific research against global warming. In the Antarctic, there is a record amount of ice. We've had record amounts of ice in the Arctic this year. We had one of the earliest freezes up there. Everything I can read points to people who have a political interest in promoting global warming, but nobody wants to look at the facts the other way. Scientists should be interested in both sides, not consensus.
All kinds of noise
I DON'T have a barking dog, but I also would not like people mowing their lawns early in the morning. Granted, a dog should not be allowed to bark all day. But if Fluffy wants to go outside during the day just like a man wants to mow his lawn, then I think a person has the right to put the dog outside. A lawn mower is just as much of a nuisance as a dog.
God's in control
FOR THOSE who are filled with sadness and hopelessness: Our hope is in Jesus. Our trust is in Jesus. All others will fail you. It's said that he will work all things for good to those who love him and are called according to his purposes. God's still in control. So be encouraged.
Emptying ashtrays
I AGREE with the comment about smokers using ashtrays. The problem is sometimes smokers use their entire ashtrays and then empty them in my front yard. I don't appreciate that.
Questionable plan
There must be something wrong with it. I liked the FairTax plan until I learned in Speak Out that one of its advocates is libertarian Neal Boortz. It is a moot point. The FairTax plan's chances of ever passing Congress are zero. Zip it up.
