Even more desperate

I ALSO have issues with "Desperate Housewives." As a men's rights activist, I think "Desperate Housewives" should, at the very least, be followed with, say, "Even More Desperate Husbands."

They deserve better

WHEN ARE the taxpayers of Scott County Central schools going to demand more from their leaders? According to the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, the district is close to last in MAP scores among small schools in this area. The district has the highest tax rate of these small schools, and it continues to employ people who spend more time on paid leave than most get in vacation time. Parents, your children deserve better.

Poor management

I WAS in a service station where there was what appeared to be a supervisor chewing out an employee in the back room. He was so loud I could hear it in the customer area. That young man needs to be fired immediately.

Rev up to merge

DEAR FELLOW drivers: Some highways have acceleration ramps. Please use them to accelerate your car close to the speed limit before you have to merge.

Offensive speaker

I CAN'T believe Southeast Missouri State University is allowing a co-founder of the Black Panthers to speak on campus. I understand the importance of Black History Month. But I would be offended at a speaker from the Ku Klux Klan just as I am offended by a speaker from the Black Panthers. I think this shows very poor judgment by the university, and I think the administration should be embarrassed.

Fulfilling prophecy

BIBLE PROPHECY is proven. It says in the last days people shall call good evil and evil good. The person who said "Desperate Housewives" is a good show just fulfilled Bible prophecy.

Obey God's Word

SOMEONE ASKED how the Bible can be the best-selling book and "Desperate Housewives" can be the top TV program. The answer is simple. There are a lot of folks who have a Bible, go to church and profess to be a child of God, yet they do not do what he says. Just because you own a Bible and go to church does not mean you are a Christian. To be a Christian, one must follow and obey the Word of God. There are over 350 churches in this area, yet there is still rampant crime. Being a good person does not mean you are a Christian.

Check them out

IF YOU want to know about the Black Panthers, read their Web site's explanation, but also check out newspapers. When a group is formed to protect one particular group, it is racist even if it is not violent, which is not the case for the Black Panthers.

Can't defend actions

THE COMMENT claiming the Black Panthers are not a racist group is ridiculous. They may have organized to protect blacks, but they engaged in cop killing as a protest against the white establishment. The Black Panthers, just like the Ku Klux Klan, committed horrible crimes, and their actions should not be defended today.

More turkeys, please

UNLESS THE coyote population is reduced, the turkeys in Southeast Missouri won't last long. We used to have them in our neck of the woods, but not anymore. We would love to see more turkeys available for release, especially in Scott County. I speak for only one landowner, but there are others of the same mind.

Scholarly opinion

EVELYN SEWING'S scathing, scintillating broadside bashing federal- and state-mandated testing of students as well as the worth of the tests themselves was the most scholarly piece I've had the privilege to read on the Opinion page of the Southeast Missourian.
