Hello, I am looking for a group that is for someone who has suffered the loss of a spouse, possibly church-based for a 74-year-old family member. If anyone has information please call and leave information.
This is in regard to the Alex Rodriguez deal going on now. I think he got off lucky. He should have got the 211-game suspension. But being who he is, and money talks, that helped get him down to 162 games plus the postseason. I think it ought to stay at that. And if the judges overrule it, saying, "No, it's not going to be fair," then I think baseball should say, "Well, we give up. Everybody can use drugs." And just quit questioning it.
Some closed-minded person gave some examples of how a couple can purchase a house living on $7.50 an hour in the Speak Out column. You forgot about income taxes, car payments and maintenance, gasoline, groceries, outrageous utilities, especially if you live in Cape Girardeau, and health insurance. So take out your calculator again and tell me this.
The problem with the health-care system is Obama tried to be nice and the fines are really low if you don't have health care. It's not enough that people feel the pinch. The fines need to be doubled for those who aren't getting health care. I hate to say that, because I have a brother who's poor and can't afford health care. But years ago, he made the choice not to get health care. He has since become a pothead. I feel confident if he'd made the choice, you know, that if the government had issued it that you have to have health care, that he probably would have taken better care of his health.
This is to the person who commented on the living wage. I would like to see you live on that and buy groceries and buy clothes for your kids and pay for the doctor bills, the dentist bills, utility bills that are going up, and pay for your gas and your insurance. Get real, people.
I think this discussion about which is more dangerous -- marijuana or alcohol -- is ridiculous. It's like saying, choose your poison. They're both dangerous. I'm 79 years old, and I've seen both of them ruin way too many lives.
It's hard to believe Barack Obama, the president, supports teaching kindergarten kids about sex.
The Sikeston Standard-Democrat is owned by Rust Communications, just like the Southeast Missourian. And it has a Speak Out, just like the Southeast Missourian. In Sikeston, they have a tradition. Lots of the Speak Out callers will ask a question. And the newspaper will give a reply, sometimes sarcastic, sometimes very insightful. But they reply to the Speak Out columns. I'd like for the Cape one to do the same thing. And to get started, here's a question: We keep hearing that the Toyota Prius is one of the most economical cars for driving around town. So why isn't it used by delivery people? Why don't the newspaper delivery people drive it, and the pizza delivery people, and maybe even the sandwich delivery people? If the Prius is so economical to use around town, why do you not use it?
