No 'kaboom' in Bible THE BIG Bang theory in the textbooks says my ancestor was a rock and then became soup, and everyone came from that. There is nothing wrong with science, but first there have to be facts to back science up. There are no facts to back up the Big Bang theory. The Bible explains how God created everything in six days. God said, "Let there be!" He did not say, "Kaboom, there it be!"...

Paying for excesses

LOTS OF different people and groups are being blamed for our country losing jobs to other countries. One group that has not been mentioned that has had more to do with it than any other is unions. While unions certainly had their place in building a strong work force in this country and promoting safe and fair labor practices, the excesses of their negotiations are finally catching up. Our country is paying the price for overpaid unskilled labor. This exodus of manufacturing will not end. We must all become better educated and less dependent on being manual laborers or we must be willing to work for much less with fewer benefits.

Stretching dollars

FOR THE few folks who are upset with the new power poles on East Main Street in Jackson, did you know there are power poles all over Jackson? Did you know these metal poles require no maintenance and save the taxpayers of Jackson nearly $1 million over what a buried line would cost? I say thank you city hall for making my tax dollars stretch into some other improvements in the city. Good job.

Nail on the head

DAVID LIMBAUGH'S column Thursday hit it right on the nail. How he got to be such a great and good Christian writer I don't know, but I'm telling you he is telling it like it is. People should read this article and understand what he's meaning.

Paying less and less

UNIONS HAD nothing to do with having to go overseas to get cheap labor. Companies would have done the same thing with any union wages they would have been paying their help. They would still have left for lower wages -- slave labor. You can't blame the labor unions for that. The companies want to pay less and less and less.

Unlicensed vehicle

I LIVE in the west part of Jackson. We've had a truck sitting on the street without a license plate for two weeks. I wonder why. I see the police go by, but they never put a sticker on the car or tell the owner to move it.

Play for free

I WOULD think that if the Cape Girardeau Municipal Band members really loved their community, they would play the concerts for free. I was just amazed to find out that our city is paying over $20,000 in three months for one concert a week.

Problems with perfume

JOE SULLIVAN is so right in his column about ads falling out of books you order. And the perfume ads are a problem too. I have to throw the whole thing out. I don't see how the postmen are able to deliver them. People with breathing problems can't take that kind of stuff.

Just a movie

WHAT IS true about every film is also true about "The Passion." It's only a movie.

Destroying lives

I AM a woman, and I too believe that males are being discriminated against in court. The law says a woman can have charge of her own body to abort any unwanted child, which is sad. But if a man doesn't want a baby, he must be proactive or pay the rest of his life. And if a woman says the baby is a particular man's, that name goes on the birth certificate with never a thought of proof unless the man speaks up right then. If he finds out the woman was with other guys, the burden of proof is on him that the child is not his. What kind of sense does that make? I know several women who have played the system and destroyed decent, productive lives.

Thanks for TV listings

IT WAS great to see the TV schedule in the newspaper again. Thanks for putting it back in. This makes your newspaper more valuable to me.
