Southeast Missouri State University has announced its lineup for the 2015-2016 Speaker Series.

The theme around each of the appearances is being a survivor, which covers many areas of life.

The speakers include:

  • Jeff Bauman, who was injured during the Boston Marathon bombing in 2013. His talk will be at 2 p.m. Sept. 13 at Academic Hall Auditorium.
  • Fareed Zakaria, a TV host and columnist. His talk is titled "In Defense of Liberal Education." The talk will be held at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 5 at the Show Me Center.
  • Carli Lloyd, a Gold-Medalist in the Olympics and star of the 2015 Women's World Cup. She will speak at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 2 at the Show Me Center.
  • Wes Moore is the keynote speaker for the annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Dinner 6 p.m. Jan. 20. The event is held at the Show Me Center. Moore is the host of "Coming Back with Wes Moore," a PBS show that looks at Iraq and Afghanistan veterans.
  • Common, a Hip-hop lyricist, will speak at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 23. The lecture will be held at the Show Me Center and the title of the message is "Greatness!"
  • Bethany Hamilton will speak at 7:30 p.m. April 4 at the Show Me Center. Hamilton has written several books and was featured in the movie "Soul Surfer." As a teenager she survived a shark attack that left her with one arm.

The Jeff Bauman event is free admission and open to the public.

Tickets for Common, Hamilton, Lloyd and Zakaria are $10 for the public and free to those with a valid Redhawks ID. Tickets are available at the Show Me Center box office or online at showmecenter.biz.
