It's been a memorable year for the Southeast Missouri State University baseball team.
Southeast (38-18) closed the regular season with a series sweep of IPFW.
While the team accumulated a strong overall record, it was its performance within the conference (23-7) that propelled the Redhawks to the top seed and first-round bye in the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament.
The Redhawks will play at 7 p.m. Thursday against the worst seed of the winning team in games 1 or 2, to be played today.
The tournament is held at The Ballpark at Jackson in Jackson, Tennessee, and continues through Saturday, with a Sunday game if needed.
To put this season in perspective, Southeast was picked to finish sixth in the conference preseason poll. It's also the 20th consecutive appearance in the OVC's tournament.
Watching the university's baseball squad compete at Capaha Field is a treat for local fans. This year's team supplied us with much to like, and they are poised to do well in postseason play.
Congratulations to Southeast on an excellent year on the field, and we wish them the best as they seek to finish the season strong.
