One of the joys of living in this community is seeing the good things that happen on a daily basis. The Good Samaritan Chronicles, a project launched two months ago by the Southeast Missourian, has been a forum for those in the community to share about many of these good deeds and the people who do them. But the concept of people helping people is not limited to adults.
Recently 37 students from Cape Girardeau Central Junior High School were recognized at the school's annual Principal's Dinner. The dinner, the fourth for the school, seeks to recognize students in areas ranging from academics and attendance to being a classroom leader, among other things.
Events like these are important to the students being recognized as well as their peers. While school can have its own challenges, these students set the bar high and should be commended. At the same time, by recognizing the efforts of some, other students may decide to strive to do better in the classroom, improve their attendance, or become leaders -- all things that will benefit them going forward.
Congratulations to these students, and hats off to the school for hosting a great event.
