Students have been in class for a few weeks, and this weekend the university and community welcome parents back to town to celebrate Family Weekend.
There are several events on the schedule, and you can find a full list on the university's website, semo.edu, and more area events on semoevents.com. But here are a few to highlight:
* Dr. Kenneth Dobbins, the university president who recently announced he will retire in June, will host Breakfast with the President at 9 a.m. Saturday in the University Center, South Dining Room.
* Family activities will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday in the University Center. This includes music, demonstrations, tours, exotic animals to pet and more.
* The Redhawks football team looks to get back on track when they host Southeastern Louisiana. Tailgating begins at 4 p.m. Saturday in front of Houck Stadium. The game begins at 6 p.m.
* The second installment of the University Speaker Series will take place at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Show Me Center where journalist Anderson Cooper will speak.
Activities are great, and we hope you enjoy your favorites this weekend, but Family Weekend is more than events. It's about spending time with your student and finding time to visit.
We welcome Southeast parents and family members to Cape Girardeau and hope you enjoy the next few days here with your student.
