Officials could use reminders

To the editor:

"The test of our progress is not whether we add more to the abundance of those who have much, it is whether we provide enough for those who have too little."

Those words of Franklin D. Roosevelt are inscribed in granite as part of the memorial in Washington, D.C., which pays tribute to his legacy to our country.

Paul Krugman's insightful column on the politics of greed prompted me to share this moving quotation, which we stumbled upon while recently touring our nation's capital.

I believe a visit to this and other memorials should be an annual, if not monthly, requirement for all our elected officials.
