Tonight kicks off the weekend of performances for Notre Dame Regional High School as students perform "Fiddler on the Roof."

The classic musical features several famous songs, including "Matchmaker, Matchmaker," "Tradition," "Do You Love Me?" and "Sunrise, Sunset."

The musical tells the story of a Jewish father trying to raise his girls with traditional values during turbulent times and anti-semitism in the early 20th century.

A production of this magnitude requires a large cast (which includes about 100 students for this show) and dedicated staff and volunteers.

Director and technical director Cindy King will produce this year's production, her 44th at Notre Dame Regional High School.

Performances will be at 7 p.m. today through Sunday in the Notre Dame cafetorium. Tickets are available for $10 online at notredamehighschool.org, with group discounts available for the first night.

Other theater options this weekend include the River City Players' production "Rats."

An Agatha Christie mystery, the show is not like other family-friendly or farce shows by the cast. It is centered on a couple who have an affair.

You can catch the show at 7:30 tonight, dessert served at 7 p.m. Other shows will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, with dinner served at 6:30 p.m. in the Port Cape Yacht Club upstairs.

The Sunday matinee has dessert at 1:30 p.m. and the performance at 2 that afternoon.

Dessert production tickets are $20 with the dinner show tickets $35.

It's a weekend of theater in Cape Girardeau.
