Celebration was in order when Notre Dame's baseball team proudly returned to Cape Girardeau in the wee hours Friday, having won the state's Class 2A high-school baseball championship game in Columbia the night before. The team found a contingency of fans on hand to greet them, and the celebration ensued.
It was the third time Coach Jim Glastetter's teams have won the state title, the others coming in 1983 and 1984. The Bulldogs made five trips to the Class 2A Final Four between 1983 and 1987.
That's an impressive record for the high school, one its players and students should be proud of. We extend our congratulations to the team, which ended the season with a 16-7 record.
