I agree wholeheartedly with your recent editorial about the gas-buying consortium sponsored by the Missouri School Boards Association. The consortium is a prime example of what membership in the association can achieve for districts throughout Missouri.

The gas-buying consortium is only one of a very long list of programs developed and offered by the MSBA.

At a time when funding cutbacks have become the norm, it is even more important to look for ways to save money. Some district have chosen not to become members of the MSBA, citing the dues as an expense they cannot afford. Unfortunately, this is a decision that, in the long run, can cost the district even more money. The more school districts unite, the more strength we have to implement cost-saving programs as well as the ability to lobby for legislation that benefits school districts.

It would be in every school patron's best interest to persuade local school boards to become members of the MSBA. Every student in every district in the state reaps the benefits. That's what it's all about.
