To the editor:
Recently there have been some Speak Out discussions about "No farmers, no food" bumper stickers. Unfortunately, these discussions have not come to the mission of these stickers. The stickers are provided by a not-for-profit organization in Sikeston called Rural Restoration Adopt Ministry. Their mission is "To develop and improve the awareness among the general public and rural America of the value and dignity of farm and ranch families." What a noble cause and organization.
This organization fulfills its mission in numerous ways. It offers small farm and ranch families a resource network concerning land, water and property rights issues, a mentoring system for families that are having spiritual or financial problems, mentoring to wives concerning the difficulties of farm life, links for a family in crisis with a church that will support them with prayer and spiritual, emotional and material needs.
Americans spend less on food than any nation on earth. This is in large part because of the toil, hard work, sacrifice and devotion to the land of America's small farmers and ranchers. If this savings is a blessing to you, I ask you, when you see a "No farmers, no food" bumper sticker, to remember Rural Restoration Adopt Ministry and America's small farmers and ranchers, especially the ones in trouble. We really do need them all.
If you want to find out more about this organization and its work, its Web address is www.farmersruralrestoration.com. Or call 800-472-4674.
