Majority in Oran is quietly thrilled

In response to the article in Monday's paper portraying Oran, Mo., as a "town divided": It seems those opposed to the police chief aren't as upset by the chief's manner of doing his job as much as they are upset that he is doing it. Certainly our country has a storied history of communities' resistance to and love affairs with lawmen. Oran's situation seems little different than the classic one where the small percentage of the community, the purveyors of the instrumentalities of outlaws and their clientele, are loudly pitted against the vast majority of folks who are quietly thrilled that someone is attempting to keep the peace and, overall, improve the quality of their lives. Until there are legitimate gripes claiming frequent violations of Oranians' Fourth Amendment rights, I say, "Keep up the good work, chief!"
