To the editor:

Torrence Johns of Qulin, Mo., has shown by his actions what the true meaning of being a volunteer really is. Mr. Johns has completed over 55 years as a cooperative weather observer for the National Weather Service. His voluntary work has provided an inspiration for all his fellow citizens.

The success of the nation's climatological programs is due in great measure to conscientious individuals like Mr. Johns. His volunteer service to the country has been performed in the highest tradition of our American heritage.

We at the National Weather Service in Paducah want to say thank you for the important services that Mr. Johns has performed so magnificently over the past 55 years. Without individuals like Mr. Johns, our knowledge of the many climates of the United States would be incomplete.
