To the editor:
I'm amused by hypocritical Republicans who are trying to get elected by running on the Democratic platform. They used to curse liberalism, socialism, pork-barrelism and all the other Democratic programs that have made this nation great. But after being elected, they will change back to harsh Republicanism. So minimum wagers, poor people, farmers, seniors and working-class people need to beware.
Let's give Al Gore and President Clinton some credit. They inherited a $4 trillion national debt and a $300-billion-a-year deficit. Clinton and Gore did the unbelievable. They replaced the deficit with a $300 billion surplus.
I have never heard of Clinton using such foul language as George W. Bush did when he didn't know a microphone was on, with Dick Cheney smiling in agreement. Are they going to take filthy-mouthed integrity to the White House?
Bush is promising more spending Medicare, Social Security, education, military, prescription drugs and new missile defense. And he is promising to cut taxes and balance the budget and pay down the national debt. Aren't you all tired of that old Republican song?
You have the choice of voting for Gore to continue paying our bills and paying back the money the Republicans borrowed. Or vote for Bush and go back down that terrible Republican road again.
