Since July, a group of individuals interested in the future of the Kelso School District has been meeting to consider the need for upgrading the school's facilities, which houses students in kindergarten through the eighth grade. Remodeling the existing building as well as constructing a new school have been discussed.

In an effort to gather as much information as possible and to gauge public opinion, the district's Organizational Betterment Committee has been distributing surveys. Responses to the surveys are due Friday, and the committee plans to hold public meetings once the results are analyzed.

Currently, the district rents a building, built in 1938, and athletic facilities from the Diocese of Springfield-Cape Girardeau. Recognizing that there would one day be a need for updating or replacing these facilities, the district has managed to set aside $750,000 for a building fund.

Participants in the Organizational Betterment Committee are to be commended for seeking out as much information as possible in arriving at its recommendations. Anyone who has received a survey would be doing the district a favor by providing as much input as possible. Having good information is the best way to make a sound decision.
