Cape Girardeau Kohlfeld Capahas manager Jess Bolen achieved a significant milestone recently when the team won its 1,000th game for their longtime manager.

Bolen, 55, is in his 31st season as manager of the baseball team. He played for the Capahas before becoming their manager in his mid-20s, and has made the team a big part of his life.

People don't do such things for as long as Bolen has without sincere dedication to the game, the team and the many players he has seen pass through the team over half of his lifetime. And he doesn't get paid. He calls all the time and effort he puts into the team a labor of love.

Bolen entered his 31st season this spring with a record of 986 wins and 337 losses, and it took the team just 14 games to win his 1,000th. The team didn't waste any time doing so, having gone undefeated through the 14 games that earned him his milestone.

In recent years Capaha Field has undergone impressive improvements, giving Bolen and his Capahas one of the finest baseball facilities at the semi-pro baseball level in which to play. It is a lovely setting on a hot summer night, and anyone who has never taken it in should consider doing so.

Jess Bolen's dedication to the game and the team is commendable, and we extend our congratulations to him.
