A special ceremony honoring officers who have died in the line of duty will be May 15
Law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty will be remembered during the annual Southeast Missouri Law Enforcement Officers Memorial. The ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. May 15 at the Cape Girardeau Conservation Campus auditorium at Cape County Park North.
The memorial's 21 names are being expanded to 45, thanks to recent research by Roger Fields, assistant chief of the Cape Girardeau Police Department. A new stone monument is in the works.
In the meantime, Seniors And Lawmen Together (SALT) is contacting as many family members as possible of the fallen officers in order to get information for a memorial book. Family members of any law enforcement officers within the service area of Troop E of the Missouri State Highway Patrol and Perry County are asked to contact Fields at 335-6621.
