So close yet so far away. The Southeast Missouri State University Indians are in the midst of their best season since moving up to the NCAA's Division I. The Ohio Valley Conference title seemed well within reach just a few days ago.
But a tough loss to Murray State University's Racers Thursday night means the Indians will likely settle for second place in the OVC.
Still, the team and coach Gary Garner deserve a big round of applause from appreciative fans for a dynamite season that still promises plenty of excitement.
What has made the winning all the more sweet is the fact it has been a true team effort. This group of talented starters and an exceptional supporting cast from the bench have made for plenty of thrills both in the Show Me Center and on the road.
And who's to say the excitement will end? Anything can happen in the post-game tournament, including an opportunity to even the score with Murray State.
