To the editor:
Missouri Farm Bureau's position on Proposition B is the result of the policy adopted by our members, who recognize the need for additional transportation funding but also believe state government should implement the reforms necessary to restore the public trust.
When the Missouri General Assembly crafted Proposition B, Farm Bureau actively worked to include provisions addressing the diversion of highway funds, restoring fairness in the allocation of state funds, making transportation funding a higher state priority and increasing funding for the Missouri State Highway Patrol. Unfortunately, the legislature chose to ignore these reforms.
If Proposition B passes, additional transportation funding will be available to the state. If it fails, let's hope state policy makers are wiser from the experience and a transportation-funding package is developed that voters will accept.
