It might not be like playing with Rory McIlroy at the U.S. Open, but for those participating in the First-Ever Sixth Annual Louis J. Lorimier Memorial Downtown Golf Tournament and All-You-Can-Eat Catfish Buffet on Sunday afternoon, there will be fun to be had and a great cause to support.

The downtown golf tournament is unlike any other. Instead of hitting the greens with regular golf balls, participants will use one club (either a 5-iron or 6-iron) to hit BirdieBalls throughout the streets of downtown Cape Girardeau.

While you still have time to practice your game before Sunday's tee time -- not that anyone needs to, as being able to have fun is the most important skill -- tournament organizers would appreciate those interested to turn in their entry form and fee today. However, registration will also be accepted before the tournament begins Sunday.

Individual entry fees are $25, which includes BirdieBalls, a special strike pad, an official tournament T-shirt and a catfish buffet in the Yacht Club at Port Cape Restaurant. Entry forms can be found in the Southeast Missourian or picked up at the Arena Park office or Cape Girardeau Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Registration on Sunday will begin at 12:30 p.m. Tee time is 1:30 p.m., followed by the catfish buffet.

The best part of the tournament is the cause it supports. Tournament proceeds will go to the Red House Interpretive Center in downtown Cape Girardeau.

You don't have to have any experience playing golf to have great fun at the tournament this Sunday, just a desire to help a good cause, enjoy some delicious food and have an interest in doing something you may have never done before.
