To the editor:
I actually may be agreeing with some of David Limbaugh's sentiments of late. I believe a fair summary of his complaints has focused on the mean spirit with which Democrats and liberals have criticized the president.
To the extent such criticism has gone beyond simple retorts and become personal, I agree there is no place for such. Our nation was created through a vigorous and creative exchange of ideas. Hamilton and Jefferson may not have loved each other, but their debates helped forge this country.
I bring this up because this session of the Missouri Legislature has sunk to a new low or a new lack of civility. This began with Rod Jetton's rude shouting at the governor during his State of the State address and has snowballed with the latest from state Rep. Jason Crowell. During a debate on a proposed bill on benefits for state employees and after a Democrat had spoken in opposition, Crowell went to the microphone and spit on it to show his opinion of that speaker.
If we cannot all get along, can we at least grow up and act like adults when the governing of this state is concerned?
