Community college a good idea

To the editor:Joel Osteen, minister at Lakewood Church, recently urged people to keep moving and not be satisfied with just what you have or what knowledge you know, but to add to it. I like that. I am a strong believer in progress. Much of it has already been seen, and more will follow, I'm sure.

Recent news has urged and even stressed the need of a community college in Cape Girardeau. The possibility of it, which has been the discussion among business leaders and others for many years, is finally coming out into the open.

It is the strong belief of the Career and Technology Center director that a community college will, without a doubt, help lower-income students to afford the first two years of schools and provide training in the medical field as well as other fields. The majority of students already show favor to the possibility. "Why not?" -- like my nephew in Tulsa, Okla., often responds.

Classed as a model is the Ozark technical school in Springfield, Mo., for turning a vocational school into a community school with an additional increase of students. I feel enlightened by the progress I see around me each day, and thus I am 100 percent in favor of a community college in Cape Girardeau, should the issue remain a possibility or in question. Now how about you?
