Coats for Kids

So far this fall most of the weather has been nice. Chilly mornings, yes. But most of the days pleasant.

This week we've seen a glimpse of winter with colder temperatures in the morning and highs only reaching the 50s. For most of us, this change is not a big deal. Grab a coat and some gloves on the way out the door and we're in good shape.

Unfortunately, there are some locally, particularly children, who do not have access to warm outerwear. When you consider the time spent outside in the morning waiting for the school bus, recess and other outdoor play, it's all the more important these young people have appropriate clothing to stay warm.

Today is the annual Coats for Kids drive. Mississippi River Radio stations will broadcast live from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Schnucks in Cape Girardeau. The community is asked to donate gently worn coats and other winter apparel, and the Salvation Army will distribute the items to those in need.

This is always a good event, and we appreciate the efforts of Mississippi River Radio, Schnucks and the Salvation Army.

Take a look through your closet today and consider what items you can donate. The children and their parents will appreciate it.
