This weekend's schedule includes a several Christmas events to consider.
Lutheran Family and Children's Services will hold its 25th Holiday Home Tour from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $25 in advance and may be purchased through today at America's Mattress, The Bank of Missouri (Cape Girardeau, Jackson, Perryville and Marble Hill), Lutheran Family and Children's Services, Patrick's Furniture, Southeast Missouri Hospital Gift Shop and Sunny Hill Garden Center. Tickets may be purchased tomorrow for $30 at any home on the tour.
The tour includes the homes of John and Jerrie Heisserer (shuttle service to the home from Blue Cross Blue Shield at 471 Siemers Drive, Cape Girardeau), Ron and Cindy Buchheit (1427 William St., Cape Girardeau), Rocky and Lauri Everett (536 Broadway, Cape Girardeau), Charles and Sally Holt (2917 Baker Farm Circle, Cape Girardeau), Greg and Linda Illers (212 Blackberry Ridge, Cape Girardeau) and Kevin and Debbie Schearf (425 N. High St., Jackson -- with parking available at the American Legion Hall). Refreshments will be available at the Walden Park Clubhouse, located at 2832 Walden Blvd.
Saturday also will be a big day for local Christmas parades. The Chaffee Christmas Parade kicks things off at 1 p.m. The parade route will travel from the Head Start parking lot to the Country C.B. building. The Jackson Jaycee Foundation Christmas Parade begins at 2 p.m. at the corner of West Madison Street and South High Street and travels through uptown Jackson. The Scott City Christmas Parade begins at 5 p.m. in the parking lot in front of Bob's Foodliner. The route ends in the Scott City Park.
The 17th-annual Sounds of the Season Christmas concert will be Sunday at Cape Bible Chapel. The concert begins at 2 p.m. and features Mike Dumey along with other local talent. A suggested donation for individual tickets is $5. Proceeds benefit the Patient Experience Fund at the Southeast Cancer Center. Tickets are available at the door or by calling the SoutheastHEALTH Foundation office at 986-6622 or the volunteer services office at 651-5518.
While not specific to Christmas, here are a couple of other events to consider:
* Author Wm. Paul Young will sign copies of his latest book "Cross Roads" from 6 to 8 this evening at the First Assembly of God Church in Scott City. Young is recognized by many as the author of the best-selling Christmas book "The Shack."
* The "Class Voice for Musical Theatre III" students at Southeast Missouri State University will perform a free recital Sunday afternoon in the Shuck Music Recital Hall at the River Campus. The recital begins at 3 p.m. and includes a mix of traditional and contemporary pieces.
