To the editor:
In response to the Speak Out caller who says the U.S. Constitution is not the highest law of the land: It is.
You seem to be a very religious Christian person, and I applaud you for that. I am religious and Christian as well. But we cannot force our religion on others through government. That is what Chief Justice Moore of Alabama tried to do by displaying the Ten Commandments, a decidedly Christian symbol. If you want a country where religion is the highest law, consider Iran, Syria and Lebanon.
Freedom to practice your religion is essential. Forcing your religion on others through the government is contradictory to the very principles this country was founded upon.JEFF SEYER
