CAPE'S TRANSPORTATION TRUST FUND HAS DELIVERED PROMISED OBJECTS; TIME TO CONSIDER MORE

Cape Girardeau's Planning and Zoning Commission this week is expected to come up with a list of street projects to be carried out with money from the city's Transportation Trust Fund, if voters extend the fund's one-half-cent sales tax past this year.

The City Council is expected to approve an August ballot issue that would extend the tax, which was first approved by voters in 1995.

Most would argue that the city has benefited from the trust fund so far. The city has kept its promises by carrying out the projects it said it would under the plan, but there are many projects the city still wants to accomplish.

There has been a good deal of interest in the individual projects carried out under the plan and what will be proposed under the extension of the fund. What the city needs now is public input on the proposed projects from Cape Girardeau citizens.
